TPS is yet again one of the favourites for promotion and last season it was really close. Their city rivals FC Inter beat them in 2-legs in the playoffs and continued in the Veikkausliiga. The football section of TPS has had some financial problems and last season they released some stocks and gathered some money to save the team. The financial situation is still though precarious and this will be the final season that they will push for promotion with the current budget. If they do not achieve promotion, they might cut the budget even further for next season. This is why they will go for it.

The team has remained almost the same from last season. They lost their number 1 goalkeeper Oskari Forsman who moved to PS Kemi in the Veikkausliiga and they replaced him with Canadian goalkeeper Jonathan Viscosi. He had a rocky start but seems to be good enough for at least this level. Other than that, they have not lost any other key players unless you count Abukar Mohamed who moved to SS Lazio at the end of last year.

TPS likes to play nice attacking football with a 4-5-1 formation that they can change into 4-2-3-1 if needed. They have a solid defense and they have many players who can score goals. Last season they have 4 players in the Top-10 goalscorers list and they have managed to keep all of them for this season. They also brought in their former players Mika Ääritalo from KuPS who has tons of experience and can help this team.

As the team quality has remained almost the same, it will see how they compare against teams who have strengthened their squad considerably over the pre-season like Honka, Jaro and KPV. They will still be a strong home team but it will be their away form that will decide if they get promoted or not.
