FC Haka is currently 6th with 22 points. They are on a 4-games unbeaten run but 3 of those have ended in a draw. GrIFK is currently 9th and in the relegation zone with 12 points. They are 6 points from safety and also Gnistan who is behind them is showing signs of improvement so they are desperate for points.

FC Haka missed their top scorer Kalle Multanen from a few of their games but they were still able to score goals. They earned a 3-3 away draw against OPS and a 2-2 draw against KPV. In both cases they were leading but just could not hold on. They got some new players during the transfer window as Antto Hilska moved from Veikkausliiga team Ilves. They also signed Arlind Basha and Jonni Thusberg. Multanen, Latosaari and Starck all return to the line-up but they will still miss Kauppinen, Lähdesmäki and Nganbe-Nganbe. All in all though, they have managed to have over 20 players in training after a long time so they will actually have problems choosing which players to pick for this match for the first time this season.

GrIFK already changed their head coach and brought back their old head coach from last season, Rami Luomanpää. GrIFK has struggled this season and will find it very difficult to avoid relegation. All other teams above them and below them have strengthened their squads but GrIFK has kept it the same. They are just hoping that bringing back their old coach would be enough to spark the players to play better. Against EIF in the last round, they could  have also won that game but had to settle for 0-0. They have played better at home than away this season, but now they will need to start earning points also on the road if they wish to survive.

The first match between the teams this season ended 1-1 in Kauniainen. Last season GrIFK won both home games with 1 goal but in Valkeakoski, the home side won 3-0.
