This is the 1st leg match between the team that finished 2nd in the Finnish first division Ykkönen, FC Honka and the team that finish 11th in the Veikkausliiga, HIFK. They will play two matches and the winner will play in the Veikkausliiga next season and the loser will play in Ykkönen.

FC Honka has had a bit more rest as their last game was 10 days ago. That match though was a 1-1 draw with TPS. Honka was leading the match 1-0 and a win would have taken them automatically to the Veikkausliiga so the match ended in a disappointment. FC Honka has been a very good home team this season as they are yet to lose a game. In Ykkönen they won 9 and drew 4 matches. Honka will miss from this match suspended top scorer Masar Ömer and long term injured Duarte Tammilehto and Joachim Böckerman.

HIFK played their last match just 3 days ago so they have not gotten long to prepare for this match. They had a chance in their last match to save themselves as when the game was 1-1, they just needed that winning goal to take them through. They did not score but their opponent did and in the end they were left 3 points from safety. Worse yet is that their goalkeeper Eriksson got injured in that match and he will miss this game. Their other goalkeeper Maanoja was already injured so HIFK asked for special permission from the Football Association to get a 3rd goalkeeper for them. And it looks like that goalkeeper is Daniel Kollar who played with Gnistan in Ykkönen this season. On top of the goalkeepers, HIFK will miss suspended Jukka Halme from this match.

The teams know each other very well as both have players who have played with both teams during their history. This season though the teams have met once in the Finnish Cup where Honka won 3-0. That match was played during pre-season so teams have developed since then.

Overall Honka has more talent in their squad but HIFK has more experience so it will be difficult to decide which one goes through. The 2nd leg is played on Saturday at the Telia 5G Arena in Helsinki.

Starting line-ups:
Honka: Murray – Äijälä, Laevuo, Rasimus, Saarinen – Kaufmann, Perovuo – Korhonen, Portela, Liikonen – Martin
HIFK: Kollar – Bäckman, A Lody, Andberg, Vesala – Terävä, Väyrynen, Gela, Ristola – Mäkelä, Sihvola

The first leg matches are always tight so a low scoring draw is our pick here.
