Both teams are desperate to get more points. Mariehamn is 10th with 4 points and TPS just above them with the same points but having played 1 game less. Mariehamn has aspirations to be in the Top-4 so their start to the season has been poor. TPS is basically there where they were expected to be. The teams met in the Finnish Cup this season and the match ended 1-1.

IFK Mariehamn got only their first win in the last round as they beat PS Kemi in Rovaniemi 2-3. They have been seriously lacking especially defensively as they have conceded 11 goals already in 5 games. Mariehamn has always been known as a defensive team with some offensive issues but now they have both. Kangaskolkka is a good striker but he finds himself without service many times. They have been missing their key midfielder Petrovic who has been injured. With him in the line-up their performances would be better.

TPS lost their opening two matches to FC Lahti and SJK but then beat rivals FC Inter. In their last match they got a 0-0 draw against league leaders RoPS at home. TPS has a squad that has played a long time with each other so they are a good “team”. However the level is still a bit closer to Ykkönen than Veikkausliiga and they do make mistakes that lead goals more at this level than they did at Ykkönen. In their last two matches though they have played better. They have shown that they belong at this level.
