Former Finnish Champion SJK has struggled this season and find themselves on 10th position with only 12 points from 14 games. They will face Ilves who are on a 4-game streak without a win and have dropped to 7th position with 20 points from 15 games. The teams know each other well as SJK recruited two players from Ilves at the end of last season; Ruben Ayarna and Emile Tendeng.

SJK has had a horrendous season and we have written about them several times. In a nutshell, they were supposed to be the biggest challenger to HJK this season but bad management decisions, bad player recruitment and tons of injuries have put them into this position. New head coach Aleksei Eremenko Sr has had a tough task. The results have not improved much under him, but at least the team seems to show potential. They lost their last two away games and now get to come back at home where Eremenko Sr got his first and only win so far last time against TPS. If SJK start to get their injured players back AND get a couple of wingers into the team in July, they should start performing better and maybe even finish in the top half at the end of the season. We might jinx it now but “They are too big to fail”.

Ilves has struggled recently. A few weeks back, they lost two games in a row and conceded 7 goals in them. This was out of character so Jarkko Wiss but extra effort to fix the defense. That he did as the next two matches have finished 0-0. While fixing the defense, the offense has struggled. It might be time again to put more effort on the offense against a team who conceded 4 goals in their last two games. The thing with Ilves is that they cannot win if their defense leaks. They just do not have the offense to cover any conceded goals. They have scored 13 goals so far with only bottom club TPS scoring fewer goals. Ilves is also getting ready for their Euro cup matches. They will play against Slavia Sofia in a couple of weeks.

Previous matches:

Ilves 1-1 SJK (This season)

According to the odds, the draw is a very high possibility. The last two matches the teams have played have ended in a draw. However, out of the 17 matches the teams have played against each other, ONLY 3 games have ended in a draw. SJK has won 8 and Ilves 6.

SJK team news:

SJK will miss suspended Anders Bååth and injured Dani Hatakka and Obed Malolo. Jarkko Hurme is training but wont play in this match. SJK will get back important Mehmet Hetemaj and Joel Mero. Billy Ions, Jordan Mustoe, Matti Klinga and Richie Dorman are all fully match fit also.

Ilves team news:

Ilves will be without Baba Mensah who will probably miss the whole season. Naatan Skyttä has fever and wont play.  Diego Tomas returns from suspension.

Starting Line ups:

SJK: Aksalu – Sundman, Mero, Tikkanen, Mustoe – Ayarna, Hetemaj – Laaksonen, Tendeng, Ions – Mboma
Ilves: Hilander – Rannankari, Tomas, Miettunen, Aspegren – Siira, Ala-Myllymäki – Tamminen, Järvinen, Hyökyvirta – Noubissi
