The first Stadin Derby in the Veikkausliiga this season. The stadium will be packed and the atmosphere will be the best that it can be in any Finnish league game. HIFK has a lot of connection to HJK. Their head coach Antti Muurinen is the former HJK head coach that took them to the Champions League group stage for the first and only time. Midfielder Mika Väyrynen and forwards Mikael Forssell and Juho Mäkelä are former high profile HJK players. The matches between these teams are always tense and with small margins.

This season though, the level gap between the teams has never been higher. HIFK is currently 10th with 1 win, 4 draws and 2 losses. They are a team that is difficult to beat but offensively they do not create chances either. They are missing an attacking midfielder who could link up with their strikers as they have 3 experienced strikers who can score goals given the chance. Their defense has been good despite injuries to their key CB players Kim Raimi and Pauli Kuusijärvi. Those players are doubts but should be available now. Their only missing player for sure is midfielder Fredrik Lassas.

HJK has the best team in the league with top goalscorer Alfredo Morelos (8 goals in 8 games) and Atomu Tanaka probably the best two players in the league. They have so far lost only 1 game when VPS beat them 2-1 in Vaasa. Overall they lead the league with 17 points from 5 wins and 2 draws. The only negative thing for the team is though that besides Morelos, other players have not been able to score goals. The last time any other player than Morelos scored was 1 month ago. Also against PS Kemi in the last round, they were not able to create as many chances as they normally do. They still got the win but the match was more even than it was expected to be.

The teams have met 9 times since HIFK got promoted to the Veikkausliiga. HJK has won 3 times, 5 matches have ended in a draw but HIFK won the last match in the league at the end of last season. The teams met in the Finnish Cup this year and HJK won 4-0. To be fair though, HIFK was missing several players in that game.

Starting line ups:
HIFK: Maanoja – Vesala, Raimi, A Lody, Hänninen – Anyamele, Terävä, Gela, Halme – Väyrynen – Forssell
HJK: Dähne – Pirinen, Jalasto, Obilor, Rafinha – Annan, Dahlström – Pelvas, Atom, Savage – Morelos

Prediction:

These matches are always very tight so the HJK odds are a bit too low. In the 7 games that HIFK has played this season, they have never been losing at half time. HIFK +1 HT with 1.83 odds has some value. HIFK +1.25AH as a side bet. HJK without Yaghoubi is a bit weaker in creating chances.
