HIFK and JJK have both been predicted to be in the bottom half of the table. JJK is actually the biggest relegation candidate due to the fact that they have been unable to strengthen their team after their promotion last season from Ykkönen. HIFK also looks to be the same level or even worse than last season after they lost their best defender Juho Pirttijoki to GIF Sundsvall. They did strengthen their offense this week after they signed a deal with former Finnish international Mikael Forssell.

HIFK got lucky last season as with PK-35 vantaa having a nightmare season and FC Inter struggling, HIFK was able to save themselves in 10th position. One of the things that let them down was their home form. They had the 2nd most worst home record with a 4-5-7. The previous season they were 5-9-2 which made them hard to beat. HIFK started their Veikkausliiga season with a 0-0 away draw against another relegation candidate PS Kemi. The match was not played at Kemi so it was an away game for both teams. HIFK had the better chances but were unable to score the required goals for the win.

JJK looked in the pre-season like a definite favourite for relegation but they did sign a couple of their key players from last season and if they can get similar momentum going as last season, they might have a chance for safety. This match though is very important for them as HIFK is a team that they can be above when the season ends. JJK started their season against last season´s champion IFK Mariehamn. JJK went 0-2 up after just 10 minutes but in the end their defense could not hold the champions and they lost 5-2. They showed that they can score goals but that defense needs to improve if they wish to remain in this league.

Starting line ups:
HIFK: Maanoja – Hänninen, Raimi, A Lody, Vesala – Terävä, Gela, Väyrynen, Ristola – Mäkelä, Sihvola
JJK: Marttinen – Vielma, Nieminen, Tapaninen, Abdi – Poutiainen, Kari, Suoraniemi, Manninen – Petrescu, Tahvanainen

Prediction:

I do rank HIFK better than JJK but not by much. The odds for them to win at home are way too low considering that in the past 2 seasons they have won only 9 games out of 32 at home. With the importance in this game JJK +1 AH with 1.70 odds has value.

Main bet here is both teams to score with 1.95 odds. HIFK will get back Väyrynen into the midfield who will help the offense a lot and will create more chances. JJK was able to score twice against Mariehamn in the last round and HIFK defense is not that good so they should be able to score against them also. Another good bet is highest scoring half 2nd with 2.05 odds. JJK will start with their new signing Elias Ahde on bench and he can make a difference when he comes on for the visitors.

As a fun bet – Pekka Sihvola to score anytime with 2.70 odds. With the arrival of Mikael Forssell, it is expected that Sihvola will move on to the bench. With Forssell not fully match fit yet and starting from the bench, Sihvola will want to make his mark in order to earn a starting line up position in the future.
