Ilves is on an unbeaten run which has helped them to climb to 5th position and only 2 points from a European Cup position. HIFK did win their last game against VPS but are still 11th and 7 points from safety.

At the end of May Ilves suffered bad back-to-back losses to bottom club JJK (3-1) and to PS Kemi (2-4). These two humiliating losses sparked a reaction within the team and they have since gone on a 4W 6D 1L run. They changed their system to be more risk-free in order to prevent two lower level teams of scoring 7 goals against them would not happen again.  This meant having a back 3 or 5, depending on how you want to see it. This seems to have helped as in those 11 matches, they have kept 6 clean sheets and conceded only 6 goals. This hast though affected their offense also as in those 11 matches they scored  only 9 goals. At home they are on a 4-3-3 record but in their last 5 home games they have won 3 and drawn 2. To help their offense, they have just signed two new forwards with Finnish youth internationl Niklas Jokelainen moves to Ilves from Stoke City and Marius Noubissi from Portuguese club Gil Vicente. Both are eligible against HIFK.

HIFK managed to stop the down form by beating VPS at home 2-1. They were the 2nd best team for at least 60 minutes in that game but they came back to get the important win 2-1. They are still struggling though as they are 7 points from safety and JJK is also breathing down their neck especially as they won yesterday against PS Kemi. Besides signing back their former Captain Tuomas Aho, HIFK has not recruited anyone else. Their playing squad is narrow and it is not helped that their current captain Jukka Halme is suspended from this game. They will still miss Tommi Vesala, Daniel Rantanen, Pauli Kuusijärvi and Kristian Heinolainen but Jani Bäckman returns from suspension.

The teams have met once this season with Ilves winning 0-1 in Helsinki. Last season Ilves won the opening two matches in Helsinki and Tampere. The last match in Tampere ended 1-1.

Starting line ups:
Ilves: Hilander – Aspegren, Miettunen, Mensah, Penninkangas – Ayarna, Siira – Järvinen, Ala-Myllymäki, Agyiri – Tuco
HIFK: Eriksson – Jurvainen, A lody, Aho, Hänninen – Anyamele, Väyrynen, Gela, Lassas – Sihvola, Forssell

HIFK has struggled to score goals and we cannot see them scoring here either. It should be an Ilves win but a 0-0 has a small chance also. Possible scores 2-0, 1-0, 0-0
