This is the first match for both teams in the Finnish Cup Group B. This is a Pohjanmaa Derby game between Veikkausliiga team VPS and 1st Division team FF Jaro.

VPS has changed a lot from last season with basically their whole defense getting an overhaul. Veli Lampi retired, Markus Jurgensson went back to Estonia, Ville Koskimaa moved a divisio lower to KPV, Mikko Viitikko moved to Norway to Fredrikstad, Jonas Levänen moved to Honka. From offensive players Andre Clennon moved to Azerbaijan and Kim Böling moved to todays opponent FF Jaro. To replace these, they have gotten Hindrek Ojamaa from JJK, Eero-Matti Auvinen and Akseli Kalermo from AC Oulu. Omar Jama moved from PS Kemi, Berkant Guner from Braunschweig and Douglas Cae from AA Portuguesa. VPS has played 1 friendly so far where they beat Swedish club FC Umeå 1-0.

FF Jaro has also had a lot of changes from last season. They have a new head coach in Kärkkäinen who is a former VPS coach. He brought with him Kim Böling, Ilari Antila and Samba Sillah from the VPS organisation so there might be an extra charge in this derby game. FF Jaro has lost Christian Eissele, Nikolaos Kousidis, Adam Vidjeskog, Brock Messenger, Walter Moore, Charalampos Chantzopoulos and Papa Niang from last season. They have been replaced by Kim Böling, Toni Takamäki, Jim Myrevik, Toni Sjöstedt, Samba Sillah and Ilari Antila. They also just signed their former player Johan Brunell. Jaro played 1 friendly against 2nd division team JBK which they drew 2-2 but they were missing several players in that game.

Last season the teams met in the Cup with VPS winning 1-0
