This is the first official match of the season for both teams. HJK are the reigning champions and again the biggest favourite this season to win the title. PEPO is a good Kakkonen (3rd tier) team who were last season 3rd in there Kakkonen group, tied in points with HJK´s reserve team Klubi-04 (who eventually earned promotion to Ykkönen via the playoffs).

HJK is the biggest favourite again this season to win the title as they have managed to keep the core group from last season. From their starting line up, they have lost only goalkeeper Dähne and playmaker Tanaka but both players can be replaced at least for these cup games. As their reserve team Klubi-04 plays also in this competition and at the same time, HJK will play with their strongest possible line-up. They will only miss Juha Pirinen due to injury and new signing Daniel O´Shaugnessy due to a playing permit. They have played 1 friendly so far this season. HJK´s main group played the first half against Swedish club Hammarby and they led 2-1 at HT. They then changed their whole line-up to their Klubi-04 team and eventually lost 3-4. Last season, HJK won all their games in the group on their way to the Finnish Cup title.

PEPO has changed a bit from last season but according to their head coach Heino, the team looks stronger than last season so they will be fighting for promotion this season. This will be their first time this season that they will play/train on a big pitch so this will give HJK a bit more advantage again. PEPO will miss from this match their main goalkeeper Graig Hill who is injured.

Starting Line ups:
HJK: Uusitalo – Jalasto, Vesiaho, Obilor, Peiponen – Dahlström, Annan – Banza, Valencic, Savage – Pelvas
PEPO: Partinen – Ceesay, Jaako, Dunyin, Rönkko – Oikkonen, Harju, Kaltio, Salazar – Koistinen, Särkkä
