There are three matches in the Veikkausliiga this Sunday 2.6.2019. Here are the match previews for FC Honka vs KPV, IFK Mariehamn vs FC Lahti and KuPS vs SJK.
FC Honka vs KPV 18:30 Tapiolan TN1, Espoo
Bethard odds: 1.37 – 4.60 – 8.25
Surprisingly there is quite a bit of history between these teams as they met in promotion playoffs in the lower divisions. Now of course things are different as they meet in the top division. Honka has a chance to go top of the league with a win whereas KPV just sacked their head coach and are still looking for their first win.
Honka team news
Honka has been playing pretty well in recent times as they have won their last two games against SJK and FC Lahti. The 2-0 win over FC Lahti was their first clean sheet in 6 games which was positive for their defense. Offensively they have been good with 15 goals in 9 games. It has been their defense that has caused them issues and keeping them from being in the top spot. 11 Conceded goals is just too much for a title chasing team.
Honka is 2-1-1 at home this season. The pitch in Tapiola is better than in the beginning of the season so it suits now better to their playing style.
Honka will miss from this match Jonas Levänen, Konsta Rasimus and Henri Aalto.
KPV team news
KPV parted ways with their head coach Jarmo Korhonen after their loss to HJK in the last round which is a shame as he is a good coach and he waited for a long time to coach in the Veikkausliiga. Still if you do not win any of your opening 9 games, you are asking for trouble. KPV has not been playing too badly but when your offense scores just 5 goals in 9 games and the defense concedes 17 goals, you deserve to be bottom of the league.
KPV is now coached by Niko Kalliokoski and they are looking for their first win but it wont be easy as KPV will miss around 5 players from this match.
Honka should win this by two goals but if we look better odds, we can take Honka to win with both teams to score. KPV scored against HJK away from home and Honka defense is worse.
IFK Mariehamn vs FC Lahti 18:30 Wiklöf Holding Arena, Mariehamn
Bethard odds: 1.80 – 3.45 – 4.60
Both teams have won just one game from their last five matches so the 3 points is important in this game. The “islanders” are currently 6th and only 5 points from the top with a game in hand. Lahti is 3 points behind them on 8th position.
The teams have met already twice this season in the Finnish Cup with IFKM winning both games, first in the groups 1-0 and then 3-1 in the quarterfinals after extra time. Last season Lahti won the first two matches against IFKM home and away but lost the third match in Mariehamn.
IFK Mariehamn team news
IFK Mariehamn started their season well by scoring goals but since then their defense also started to concede goals and the wins stopped coming. They have now started to improve their defense with their last two games being clean sheets. This has cost their offense however and their last two games has seen them score only 1 goal when before those games they were averaging over 2 goals per game.
The next game for IFK Mariehamn will be the Cup final against Ilves but that will be on the 15th of June so still plenty of time for that one.
IFK Mariehamn will miss Tarik Hamza and Gustaf Backaliden due to injury. Top scorer Aristote Mboma is suspended.
FC Lahti team news
FC Lahti has only won two of their 9 games so far but at the same time they have been difficult to beat with only two losses. Still though their game is a bit of a mess as offensively they do not create much which was also the case last season. They are pretty solid defensively with a good goalkeeper. They are undefeated at home, but away from home they have a 1-1-2 record where they won their first away game 0-1 against HIFK and that was also the only goal they have scored away from home this season.
They will miss Jeronimo Amione from this match.
This looks like a low scoring game so we will go with under 2.00 goals or under 1.5.
KuPS vs SJK 18:30 Savon Sanomat Areena, Kuopio
Bethard odds: 1.90 – 3.35 – 4.25
This is the big match of Sunday with 5th placed KuPS hosting 7th placed SJK in Kuopio. Both teams are desperate for a win as SJK has played 4 matches without a win and KuPS is slowly starting to get back into form after a poor start. Both teams have only lost twice this season from 10 games so they are difficult to beat.
The teams met in the Finnish Cup this season with the game ending 2-2. Last season KuPS won twice away from home with the one game in Kuopio ending in a draw.
KuPS team news
KuPS beat Ilves in their last game and it was their best and balanced performance so far this season. Their offensive play in that game was quality and it kept Ilves from counter attacking. They will want to continue that here. KuPS is normally a good home team and they are 2-2-1 so far at the Savon Sanomat Arena this season. Their problems are defensive but if they can sort those out, they will be dangerous this season. Most likely better than last season.
KuPS will be without Issa Thiaw. Juho Pirttijoki, Saku Savolainen and Lucas Rangel are doubts.
SJK team news
After a good start to the season they have only won once in their last 7 games. Still they are the only team not to lose away from home with 1 win and 4 draws so far. They also have enough quality to be a good team but playing as a team has been difficult. Somehow they have also lost the win right at the end and those can affect self-confidence.
SJK will miss Mehmet Hetemaj, Jarkko Hurme and Dani Hatakka. Jose Nadson, Boris Kadio, Serge Atakayi and Dion Acoff are doubts.
KuPS is still very inconsistent so cant back them yet. They should win if SJK will miss their defenders, but the odds for draw is good so will back that one on the 1×2 market. Both teams to score though is the main pick.
