The Veikkausliiga continues on Sunday with one match: Ilves vs VPS
Ilves vs VPS 16:00 Ratinan Stadion, Tampere
Bethard odds: 1.62 – 3.60 – 5.85
Ilves and VPS head coaches Jarkko Wiss and Petri Vuorinen are great tacticians who try to eliminate the strengths of their opponents and this can lead to very boring games, at least from the spectator side of view. The last two matches in Tampere between the teams have ended 0-0. Now though the hosts have taken a step forward and the visitors maybe a step back or remained the same.
Ilves team news
The hosts have been playing great football already this time of the year. They understood the change in the Veikkausliiga for this season which meant that less games mean that even from the start the points are even more important. If you start weak, it will be more difficult to get back, so Ilves has started strong. They players are focuses, the head coach has given them a playing style and the players execute it almost perfectly. Many of the head coaches of the opposition that they have met this season have said that the level Ilves is playing already now is high. They might not have too much room to improve anymore but at least now, it is doing the trick for one of the lowest budget team in the league.
Tendeng and Ala-Myllymäki have been exceptional in the centre keeping the distances tight and then quickly starting counter attacks with Mettälä and Järvinen. They have not even needed a proper striker to win games as the team is playing so well as a group. In their last 5 games, they have kept 4 clean sheets which just show the level of organisation the team is having already at this time of the season.
VPS team news
VPS has their own style of play but they do not execute it as well as Ilves does at the moment. VPS likes to keep the ball and try to avoid mistakes where they could lose the ball. At best this can be really good but it depends a lot on the level of their players. As the team does not have that much money for players, the quality might not be there and mistakes can happen. Just like Ilves, they have managed to get themselves into the Finnish Cup semifinals. However the team has lacked consistency and that is why they lost their season opener to FC Inter 1-2. Inter was the dominating team in that game and just wanted the win so much more.
VPS will improve this season but at best they look like a team fighting for positions 7-10. Ilves right now is just too good for VPS to try to eliminate the strengths.
Main pick is VPS not to score. Bethard having 1.95 odds for this. Ilves to win to nil is another good option.
