FC Inter signs Macoumba Kandji

FC Inter announced today that they have signed Gambian forward Macoumba Kandji with a deal until July with an option until end of the season.

The 31-year old Macoumba Kandji has played twice in Finland previously representing HJK. He is available already in their next game against JJK.

Kandji was born in Senegal but moved to the USA already in 2003 and he has played 99 games in the MLS with Atlanta Silverbacks, Colorado Rapids and Houston Dynamo winning the title with Colorado. During 2013 and 2014 he played in Greece with Kalloni and Levadioakos before moving to HJK. He has played 29 games in the Veikkausliiga and he played in all of the Europa League group stage games with HJK scoring against Club Brugge and FC Copenhagen.

Inter head coach Shefki Kuqi sees that Macoumba “Mac” Kandji´s short contract is good for the club and for the player.

– I have wanted him here already for a while. Of course the fact that he has not been playing is a question mark but with this short contract we are giving him a chance to prove himself and his form without a big risk. It also speaks volumes about his attitude that he wanted such a contract t show his skills says Kuqi.

According to Kuqi, Kandji will bring a different alternative to their offense.

– He can play up front and also on the wing. He will give us options because as a winger he is a different type of player that our other players. He is very fast and with his size, he will make our set pieces more dangerous.

Most football fans have found this signing a bit odd considering the offensive options that FC Inter already has with Furuholm, Kuqi and Källmann.
